Upon obtaining her GED\, she was hired as a paraprofessional by the Adult and Community Education Department. It was during this time that she also attended classes at the local community college and in 2001 received her Bachelors' Degree from the University of South Florida.\n\nIn 2003\, Angelica was selected to serve as program director for the development of a family literacy program in Tampa. The same year she was the recipient of a development grant from the Governor's Family Literacy Initiative. In her role as director\, she developed community partnerships and obtained funding for the program.\n\nIn 2011\, with funding from longtime supporter\, the Barbara Bush Foundation\, Angelica established the Family Literacy Academy in Plant City to focus her efforts on providing services in the community where she had lived for over 30 years. In 2014\, Angelica founded Learn Tampa Bay\, now named Achieve Plant City.
